ABOUT TEMPLE HOTEL

About the temple lodging

Kokushoji (Nichiren sect) is a temple lodging located on a hill overlooking the townscape of Izuhara, which has flourished as a castle town in Tsushima since ancient times. This temple lodging accommodates only one group per day, consisting of two spaces: the Shugoshindo hall, which enshrines Kato Kiyomasa, and a newly constructed accommodation building on the surrounding grounds.

Kokushoji is the only Nichiren sect temple in Tsushima and has been cherished by locals in the center of Izuhara town. The temple lodging utilized Tsushima City's "Temple Stay Promotion Project Subsidy" and, after more than two years of preparation, pre-opened in July 2025.

Kokushoji

The chief priest, Kosho Sakumoto, has twice completed the Nichiren-shu Dai-Aragyo-do, one of the three great ascetic practices in the world, and performs prayers and exorcisms. In addition to his priestly duties, he is a creator who handles drone photography and video production, and as a tour guide belonging to the Tsushima Tourism and Product Association, he shares the spectacular scenery, history, and culture of Tsushima with people both in Japan and abroad.

"I started this temple lodging with the desire for more young people and international visitors to discover Tsushima. I would be delighted if you could experience a moment of self-reflection in this temple lodging amidst your busy daily life." (Kosho Sakumoto, Chief Priest of Kokushoji)
