Rice Ball & Miso Soup Breakfast Making

Join us in preparing homemade onigiri (rice balls) and miso soup using fresh, local ingredients.
As we typically do not use meat or fish, this experience is also suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Enjoy a heartwarming moment while immersing yourself in Japanese food culture.
All ages are welcome, and no prior experience is needed.
This unique activity lets you savor the flavors of Japan and find a moment of peace.

Dark Meditation

Dark Meditation is a sensory journey that heightens awareness and deepens your connection to your inner self.
In the stillness of darkness, you may find yourself touching the “Key to Paradise.”
This symbolic practice represents the path to enlightenment and the purification of the soul.

Writing Meditation(Sutra Copying)

Writing meditation (sutra copying), as the name implies, is the process of transcribing sutras containing the teachings of Buddha. The experience of writing meditation allows you to pray for the fulfillment of your greatest wishes and attain mental well-being by mindfully tracing the sacred scriptures.
It is also said to enhance concentration and bring a sense of calm to the mind.

Drawing Meditation (Tracing the Figure of Buddha)

Our drawing meditation is held in the main hall of the temple. It involves tracing and coloring an image of Amida Nyorai, the principal deity of Zenkoji Temple.
Focusing your attention on the drawing helps to refresh the mind and spirit, and is said to cultivate a sense of gratitude for everyday life.

Yoga

Relax your mind and body with a peaceful yoga session held in the main hall of the temple.
Please wear comfortable clothing.

Kimono Experience

Enjoy the tradition of wearing a Japanese kimono with the help of a professional kimono dresser.

Table-Style Tea Ceremony

This is a wonderful introduction to Japanese culture offering a glimpse into the spirit of Japanese hospitality, wabi-sabi, and refined manners.
Mihoko Omori, an instructor from Tsubaki no Kai who lived in New York and rediscovered the beauty of Japan, presents a modern interpretation of sado, the traditional tea ceremony now gaining popularity around the world.
What makes this tea ceremony unique?
No need to sit in seiza (formal kneeling position)!
This is a table-style tea ceremony, allowing you to enjoy the experience comfortably while seated in a chair.
Immerse yourself in a once-in-a-lifetime cultural experience that leaves a lasting impression of Japan right here in Takayama.
