ABOUT TEMPLE HOTEL
About the temple lodging
Shimanobo, Yogoin Temple, Higashidani (Nichiren-shu sect) is the oldest temple lodging on Minobusan, the head temple of the Nichiren-shu sect, celebrating its 750th anniversary in 2024. Located at the entrance of the Higashidani pilgrimage route, it is also close to the temple town, making it convenient for shopping. Seasonal flowers such as the parent-child weeping cherry tree, Ukon cherry tree, and over 60 weeping cherry trees and azaleas on the back mountain are also highlights.
Temple lodging (shukubo) were originally accommodations for monks in training, but with the spread of temple and shrine pilgrimages during the Heian period, nobles, samurai, and general pilgrims also began to stay. Currently, not only group pilgrimages but also individuals and non-Nichiren sect followers can stay. When staying, it is recommended to wake up early and attend the morning service (morning sutra chanting) at Kuonji Temple, the head temple of the Nichiren-shu sect.
